In America: An Anthology of Fashion The Metropolitan Museum of Art. In collaboration with the Costume Institute and American Wing In America: An Anthology of Fashion considers the minimum conditions required for space and time to remain legible. Working within the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s American Wing, each image reduces a historic interior to its most information-rich elements—a doorway, stovepipe, curtain, chair, panorama, garment. Architecture is stripped toward abstraction without surrendering identity. What remains operates as a set of coordinates, allowing the viewer to reconstruct a room, an era, a social order from fragments. Created in dialogue with the Costume Institute’s cinematic installations, the series asks a fundamental question of design: how much can be removed before a thing no longer remains itself?
